Judges Resume - Albert Hope (Scotland)

 ALBERT HOPE

In 1984 I responded to a classified in the newspaper “3 yr old Bullmastiff bitch available to good home” – not quite a rescue but close enough, if I hadn’t taken her she was being put to sleep. Judy had behavioural problems which some 3 months later I discovered were the result of an inoperable tumour. However by then I was totally smitten by the breed.

In 1985 I got my first Bullmastiff puppy from the Clyth kennel of John and Isobel Campbell. A red bitch we named Zara. She never produced any puppies but was a wonderful girl who we had until she was over 10 yrs old.

I bred my first litter in 1991 from our bitch Seemarr Shady Lady (Ch Leyrigg French Pickle of Meitza x Leyrigg lady Muck) and The Brigadier from Tartuffe (Ch Naukeen Major Kew of Eastlynn x Tansybel of Naukeen). This was when the kennel name Grallon was granted by the KC. At that time we lived at Garrallan House, but a friend always spelled it Grallon when sending us cards etc and Grallon was the only spelling the KC would allow. From that litter I kept a lovely red bitch, Grallon Lulu Labelle. She did very well for me winning BPIS, BOB etc. at numerous shows. This began a long association with Sue Reynolds of Tartuffe bullmastiffs until her tragic death in 1999.

I judged my first 4 classes of Bullmastiffs at Carrick and District Canine Society Open Show in 1993. I judged my first breed club show in 1996 at The Bullmastiff Society of Scotland with a record entry of 106, and record entries have followed me throughout my judging career. I was privileged to judge the Southern Bullmastiff Society’s Millenium event at Bisley with renowned all rounder Peggy Grayson and Spanish breed specialist Daniel Moreno Lopez and what a wonderful night it was. BIS Ch Pryderi Burrunji of Chalfs RBIS Ch Licassa Sweet Serenity and BPIS Ch Licassa Miss Louise (in my opinion their best ever Bullmastiff) .

I have been fortunate to breed or own a few well known UK Bullmastiffs Grallon Clansman (Ch Tartuffe Revelry x Hialeah Constant Craving for Tartuffe) owned and shown by Lynn McGroarty (Arhub) Top Puppy 1998 Merry Lady of Burnsknowe ( Tartuffe Janissary at Grallon x Tartuffe Dancer) RCC at 8 months old Tartuffe Gee ‘n’ Tee with Grallon.

I judged my first Championship Show at Bournemouth in 2003 where my BOB was Websters Brinscall Huckleberry of Evenstar , BOS was Asperry’s Ashton Lundy and BPIB Hamnetts Hilderstone the Boss – all three sired bv Ch Northern Light of Evenstar , a long time favourite of mine and the puppy dog I beat for BPIS with Merry Lady of Burnsknowe several years earlier.

I judged Blackpool Ch Show in 2005 where my BOB was McNaught’s Ch Dreadnought Nearly an Angel BOS Ch Oldwell Bugler and BPIB Sundabish Luka.

I judged the Bullmastiff Association Ch Show in 2008 my BIS Warrens Copperfield Zamiel, BOS Cridge’s Karmicly Aurora and BPIS Oliver’s Nashbank the Guvnor.

I was pleased to be one of two “surprise” BIS judges at the first Bullmastiff World Cup in Belgium, along with Anne Marie Class. BIS was Guerts and Abens Nightshifts Mood Indigo and RBIS was Myres Pi Et Ra Rio of Trefilio of Optimus.

I judged the Belgian Bullmastiff club Ch show in 2011 where my BIS was Guerts and Abens Ch Nightshift Mood Indigo, BOS Van Dongens Ch Hefrings Pride Bruce and BPIS De Deckens Grace Des Jardin D’Antlantis.

In 2012 I judged the Welsh Kennel Club’s Ch Show where my BOB was Myres Old Manilla’s Whisky Mac for Optimus, BOS Roberts and Joyce’s Int , Multiple and UK Ch Joybull Limited Edition and BPIB was Warren’s Optimus Alicia of Copperfield

In addition to Bullmastiffs I judge all working and pastoral breeds at Open Show level and have judged over 100 Rottweilers, more Boxers and almost the same in Dobermann’s. I am on the Scottish Shetland Sheepdog Club judging list and really enjoy judging this breed.

I am currently President of the Bullmastiff Association and have previously held office as Chairman Bullmastiff Society of Scotland, Treasurer Bullmastiff Association and also Vice Chairman. I served on the committee of the Working and Pastoral Breeds Association of Scotland and was Show Manager there. However I have served on the committee of Cumnock and District Canine Society for 26 years and have held office as Secretary, Treasurer (and both at the same time for several years).

I am passionate about this breed that has played such a huge part in my life for 30 years now and look forward to judging in Australia.
